A Bitcoin futures premium is not a price forecast
A Bitcoin futures premium is not a price forecast
When a futures contract trades above a comparable spot price, the gap is a positive basis, or contango. CME's Bitcoin futures settle in U.S. dollars against the CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate rather than delivering coins.
A positive basis does not require spot bitcoin to rise: futures and spot can converge even if both prices fall. Financing costs and market positioning can also affect the gap. Compare the same spot benchmark and contract maturity before reading a change in basis as a market signal. This is a market-structure observation, not a trade call.
