The US Air Force released an image on May 21 of a bomber refuelling in mid-air from a KC-135 Stratotanker over the Middle East, according to reports.
Air-to-air refuelling allows bombers to fly long missions far from their bases. Publishing such images is also a way of signalling reach and readiness.
The release did not say where the bomber was heading or what mission it was on.
